April is “Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month.” The ASPCA, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, began this important month for animals eight years ago and it is now a nationwide celebration of the human-animal bond and of victories on behalf of animals.
The Humane Society of Greenwood wants all to realize that animal abuse and neglect occurs in their own community.

Applause, applause, applause for those pet owners who are taking advantage of the free transport and low prices. All of you with spayed/neutered pets are helping our efforts to reduce the number of animals that enter the shelter system.

February is nationally recognized as “Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.” The purpose is to encourage people to have their pets sterilized before the spring and summer months when there is a rampant overproduction of puppies and kittens. During that time most animal shelters experience an unmanageable increase in animal intake. Spay/neutering helps to decrease those numbers and saves pets’ lives.
