Be a Volunteer!

Volunteer help is vital for helping save animals’ lives. Volunteers are needed to perform a variety of services, including kennel enrichment, socialization and dog walking, assist at community adoption events, fund raising, administrative tasks, helping with animal transport, bathing and grooming, providing basic training to dogs, general or spot cleaning kennels or sharing other skills.

Here’s how you can join our volunteer team:

  1. Be 16 years of age or older to volunteer without a parent or guardian. Youth ages can volunteer, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for all volunteer sessions.
  2. Attend a Volunteer Orientation and complete an application.* The date of upcoming orientations are listed on our Calendar.

* Applications are also available at the Greenwood County Animal Shelter at 235 Wilbanks Circle in Greenwood during regular business hours.

Community Service Projects or Group Volunteering

If you have a group or club who would like to volunteer, please give us at least two weeks notice so that we can provide enough tasks and projects to make your efforts meaningful to all of us! For your safety, the maximum number of volunteers for a service project is eight (8) adults and/or six (6) children (with parent or guardian supervision). For more information or to schedule a group to volunteer, please call (864) 942-8775 or email humane@gwdhumanesociety.org.

For more information download a volunteer pamphlet, call 864.942.8775, or E-mail.
