Camilla

Camilla’s just 11 months young — a softly outgoing, affectionate, attentive little girl; in our big cage here she followed us everywhere, always ready to exchange a face-rub for a pet, and a cozy purr for a snuggle. Camilla was found stray — a gentle street-child born with cat-magazine glamor; hold her to you and she’s all airy fur, but you’ll feel her weighty gratitude. Camilla’s clean and tidy and gets along fine with other cats; she promises to be a tender, patient friend to your kids and a constant companion to you, and show you, if possible, that she’s even prettier inside than out. Emerson

Except for the funny snort that escapes through his steadfast smile, our 6-year-old yellow Lab/mix Emerson’s a refined gentleman — calm, respectful, loving and solidly handsome, a champion leash-walker who’ll sit for a treat, take a graceful trot around the yard and kennel himself cooperatively upon request (he likes to keep his run clean, too.) Emerson was found stray, but he’s too well-raised not to have had a family; now he’s eager to show you how beautifully he behaves with kids big and small, and how well his warm attitude, diplomacy skills and big-guy sensitivity fit into your home. Emerson’s a trustworthy inside-outside kind of family member, a loyal friend who’ll never stop evolving, and a dream student for your every heart’s command — as HSOG’s Pet of the Month his adoption fee’s only $50, so low it’s a scandal. Bruster’s Night For The Dogs!

Come out and enjoy the spring-like weather with the Humane Society of Greenwood at “Bring Your Dog to Bruster’s” Spirit Night. The event will be held at Bruster’s Ice Cream, located at 1204 Mathis Road in Greenwood, on Tuesday, May 14, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. All dogs will receive FREE doggie sundaes and 12% of all proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Greenwood. Humane Society adoption alumni dogs are encouraged to attend the event.

Sugar

Forget the artificial stuff, our one year old Whippet/Chihuahua mix “Sugar” is 20 lbs. of authentic sweetness — pure and personable, full of delicate energy but ready to relax in your arms like an infant; graceful, feminine, and runway model slim, with long willowy legs that fold up fine for a snuggle. Squeaky

Her name’s “Squeaky” but there’s nothing mousey about her — she’s more Grace Kelly stunning, a pristine less-than-two-year-old beauty who’ll take your cat-lovin’ breath away, with long fur the color of fine pewter, and a frothy white pendant on her neck too, all underscored by a demeanor as serene as her looks are majestic. Pick her up and you’ll see that she’s mostly air — that and calm kindness — she’ll answer your every caress with a quiet purr and a soft head butt, basking in your attention and ready to give back each appreciative nuzzle, in her own steadfast un-squeaky style. Squeaky makes friends easily with other cats, who tend to forgive her grand appearance because they know her niceness, and she has all the ever-purring patience to make a delightful cat-friend for kids (please remind them to brush her.) Squeaky’s currently ensconced in a Petsmart cat condo, where she can show off her clean box-keeping; go ask to hold her and see how warmly she’ll adorn your shoulder, your home and your life; and how easy it is to be smitten with a girl named Squeaky.

Patches

“Patches” is an understatement of a name for her; her glorious tortoise shell-tabby (Torbie) markings are etched in orange, black and white so vivid even the latter seems to glow; but her keenly defined markings is where her edges end, inside she’s a dreamy watercolor-cat, a two year old girl suffused with tranquil sweetness you’ll feel the moment you hold her. Patches is another mystery-stray, an intelligent, soft-spoken beauty with finishing-school manners somehow homeless; we’ve seen her civilized approach win her cat-friends easily, and her alert, relaxed demeanor makes her a lovely choice for your little ones. Patches is currently reigning congenially over a pristine Petsmart cat condo (she’s proud to keep it immaculate). Go marvel at how fascinating her “Torbie” markings really are, and catch the calm of our splendid Patches as she purrs her first hello.

We posted on our Facebook page that we wanted a bell for the Adoption Center that could be rung each time a pet was adopted. Beth Dettmann saw the post and when asked by her children, Andy and Todd Waldrep, and his wife, Sara, what she wanted for Christmas she told them, “A bell for the Humane Society!” The children obliged and The Rudy Bell, named to memorialize a young Poodle rescued by The Dettmanns who unexpectedly passed away last November, was donated by the family. Now adopters are invited to “ring in the arrival” of their new pet after they adopt. We hope the ringing never stops!
