Most of the pets that end up at shelters are lost from their owners; however, a large percentage of pet owners never contact their local shelter in their search efforts. We’re very excited for the Festival of Discovery celebration this week. The Humane Society of Greenwood is encouraging attendees to leave their dogs at home to avoid the very real risk of their over-heating and burning foot pads. The ground is usually 30 to 40 degrees hotter than the air temperature. July in South Carolina is just a very hot time of year.

At this time of year, litters of puppies and kittens are carried through the shelter door in boxes, clothes hampers, makeshift traps, and containers that were never designed for animal transport. The devoted mothers of the sweet little ones often accompany their offspring. With the increase in animals comes an increase in costs.
