April – Animal Cruelty Prevention Month

The Humane Society of Greenwood wants all to realize that animal abuse and neglect occurs in their own community. It’s important to recognize the signs of neglect, whether it’s intentional or not, and to report it for the sake of the animal. Residents of Greenwood City or County (South Carolina) should call 911 or dispatch at (864) 942-8679 to report an animal in need.

Food Lion Stores in Greenwood Holding April Food Drive

For the month of April, both Food Lion stores in Greenwood, SC are collecting donations of dry pet food for the Greenwood County Animal Shelter (operated by the Humane Society of Greenwood). Since 2005 the Society had been receiving free food supplies from pet food manufacturers; however, the availability of those free foods have all but ended as those companies have improved their processes in order to reduce costs associated with production “overruns.”

Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity Raises Money to Help Shelter Animals

Lander University’s Alpha Tau Omega fraternity held an Easter egg-themed fund raiser on March 21 that raised $250 to benefit the Humane Society of Greenwood. The event was called “eggerATOr” and, for a $1 donation, students and teachers were invited to throw eggs at the ATO fraternity brothers. HSOG staff and adoptable dogs were on hand at Lander for the event.

Palmetto Christian Academy Holds Food & Supply Drive for the Animal Shelter

Palmetto Christian Academy’s National Honor Society Held a food and supply drive for the Greenwood Animal Shelter. 190 lbs of dog food and 52 lbs of canned cat food were donated, along with much needed cat litter and cleaning supplies. The students were thrilled to be able to donate this much to the shelter.
