 IS YOUR PET MISSING?

Don’t forget to check with the Humane Society Shelter! Bring a photo, if possible, and fill out a lost report. Take into consideration that a white fluffy Poodle may look more like a light brown long-haired mixed breed, if it has been out walking the streets for a few days. A Siberian Husky puppy may look like a German Shepherd mix to some people. A Boxer puppy without the tail docked may look like a Lab mix and so on. You know your pet better than anyone else, and it would be very easy to have problems with a description of an animal physically or socially. For example, a dog that has been hurt may not be the friendly pooch that you know it to be. Animal Control may get the impression that it is wild since it is not warming up to people like it would under normal circumstances. Please come down to the Shelter and view the animals to be absolutely sure yours isn’t overlooked. Be sure your pet wears a collar with an identification tag to help locate your lost pet.

WHY ADOPT A SHELTER PET?

Only about 15% of companion animals are acquired through animal shelters. So please consider the points below to realize the tremendous benefits you can have by adopting a companion animal from the animal shelter.   The fee for adoption is reasonably affordable.

Adopting a pet from a shelter pays you back in love and loyalty. Pets in shelters have been abandoned-and feel it. When adopted, these pets bond with an enduring love and loyalty that few relationships can match.
Pets are great stress-busters. If you've ever petted a cat or sat with a sleeping dog on your lap, you won't be surprised to learn that interacting with a pet can actually help reduce mental distress. In studies comparing people with and without pets, people with pets enjoy higher morale and less depression.
Pets, dogs in particular, can be of great assistance. They act as eyes, ears and legs for thousands of people with disabilities, but that's just part of their support. Their love and loyalty earn support dogs a place in the hearts as well as the homes of the people they serve.
Pet adoption is good for your heart. Research has shown that people with pets are more likely to recover from heart attacks. Given that more than a million people in the United States die of heart disease each year, a staggering 30,000 more might survive through the companionship of a pet.
Pets are a sure cure for loneliness. There's no need to be alone when so many pets are looking for companions. Pets are constant, loving and true. Nothing licks loneliness like a pet in the house.
Pets can teach children a lot about love. In ways even the most well-intentioned parent cannot be, a pet is always there for a child. Pets give children unconditional affection, attention and love. They help children develop a sense of responsibility, high self-esteem and empathy.
Pets can be a strong incentive to get in shape. Walking daily is one of the best medicines in the world-and a dog that needs to go outside can be a compelling reason to get up and move.

Pets give you a reason to laugh and look beyond yourself. Just when you're drowning in your own troubles, a playful dog can nudge you into a smile or a laugh. A cat can show you the joy in simple things, like sitting in the peace of a sunny window. Either way, your attention will be drawn outside the weight of your problems for a while.

Pets are a good way to meet people. Studies indicate that having a pet encourages social interaction among strangers.
Pets make people more humane. It's not surprising that people who have pets tend to have a more positive, humane attitude towards animals-but you may be surprised to learn that the same applies to their outlook on people. Caring for and loving a pet produces a tendency to have greater emotional empathy for people, too. And that's a positive for pets and people!
